I have a 2012 AWD QX56. Since I first owned it, I have noticed that the brakes do a self check pulsing after every other time being pressed. This is normally quiet and not that noticeable. When I have taken it skiing on 3 occasions the pulsing becomes very pronounced and distracting, making it hard to modulate the brakes.
My most recent ski trip was during fairly warm weather with no snow on the roads. I was able to figure out that the cause is altitude. Specifically it seems to need to be above 6,000 ft to start the pulsing. It takes a little while to begin but once it does it last for 2 days after returning to sea level.
The dealer has looked at it multiple times to no avail of course. They even had it while it was still pronounced but had no take on what could be causing it.
I questioned whether there is air in the lines contracting and expanding but they tell me it is a self bleeding system. ??
To those of you living at altitude, is this normal life for you or is my car just special?
