97 infinity i30 is really slow on accelerating...how do I fix that?

I know the i30 is not a sports car....but when I accelerate it takes a while to pick up....sometimes I'm pulling out on to a busy street and I just want to turn out when I see an opportunity but I cant ....i have to wait till ALL the cars are gone then i'll go...so why is my infinity slow on accelerating...what can I do to fix it??

Check the codes to make sure it hasn't got a knock sensor code. If it does, replace the knock sensor, then clear the code. If it detects a knock sensor error, it retards the timing, resulting in poor performance.
