Might end up being a long post but my question will be the last paragraph.

In June 2014 i bought a used QX56 for 63k miles on it.

In July 2015 81k miles truck went into the shop to have the dreaded timing chain issue. Extended warranty ended up covering this because the recall was not yet out.

In September 2015 it went into the shop for the right bank Catalytic Convertor. Extended warranty wouldnt cover it and past the national warranty of 70k miles. $1900 to replace.

In November 2015 went in for an O2 Sensor ($800) extended warranty covered.

Now in February 2017 110K miles truck is in the shop for the left bank Catalytic Convertor Infiniti now want $2499 to replace, and spark plugs since over 100k miles and started misfiring infiniti wants $650 to replace. I decided to take to nissan instead since out of all warranties and they would do both for $2100

NOW i get a phone call that it is still misfiring and was told that the left bank timing chain is 65degrees out of time. Is it possible for this to happen in 18 months 30k miles or could this have been installed improperly? The paperwork says only 12k miles 12 month warranty on replacement parts and labor. Am i SOL and looking at another $5200 timing chain replacement. Or since this is a newer vehicle the timing can be reset via the ECM? Honestly believe i bought a lemon.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar situation with a used 2011 QX56. Honestly, I am 100% convinced that the catalytic converters are related to the timing issues. If the timing is really out however, Infiniti needs to step up and cover that since no timing should fail within 20K miles. I would take it to Infiniti and have them fix the timing again. IMO that is their screw up.

TO OP,

being your car was used when you bought it, this will give nissan a "loophole", meaning since its been under multiple owners, you don't have all the paperwork on any maintenance done on the car prior so they will chalk it up to an issue with the previous owner (unless you can get the paperwork on any maintenance records with the previous owners(s)).

yes, i am well aware you have an extended warranty and you had nisan do the timing chain debacle , but my point here is to say that it will be an UPHILL battle trying to get nissan to give you any relief in all of this.

reaching out to the dealer that did the work is a start, especially if you bought the car there (was it a CPO?)

timing can be reprogrammed with a tuner but if there is something PHYSICALLY OFF inside the dinge, you are only going to exacerbate the problem.

Hate to hear about the OP's issues.

Scaring the crap out of me now too as I've just gotten into my 2011 a week ago, and already have a bad CAT and about to do the Timing Chain recall. Hope they don't screw that up too!

Well it's a great vehicle besides these few problems. TThat beibg said, if you are out of warranty be sure to open a case with infinity consumer affairs so they know this is a common problem.
