I've had the QX for about a month now and I love the car. I bought the car used with 35k miles on it. The vehicle was owned by one other person before me on a 2 year lease before I bought it. It's a 2011, 4WD, liquid platinum color, theater pkg, technology pkg, deluxe touring pkg and 22" wheel pkg. I believe it's fully loaded with all the goodies. I bought it from the dealer that originally sold and serviced the vehicle and the carfax report is clean. I paid $44k for it and it looks like a brand new car.

I've gone over the 550 page owners manual and the 250 page navigation manual a few times (reading on iPad in spare time). I have three issues that keep coming up.

  1. BSW: The Blind Spot Warning light stays on in a constant orange color on the dash panel. Per the manual the car can be driven just fine like this but I should get it checked out by the dealer.
  2. HEAD UNIT: The head unit including the GPS, iPod control, DVD and XM radio occasionally (1 out of every 6-7 times I drive the car) flips out on on me and buttons/commands just start pressing by themselves. The GPS moves around all over the map without me even touching it. I have to turn off the car and restart to correct this. It reminds me of a program that needs to be rebooted. Another issue is the the daytime GPS view only comes on at night even if I press the day/night auto switch.
  3. AC:
The air conditioning turns on by itself and won't turn off unless I turn the entire air system off. Other times it works just fine.

I searched this chat forum for others with similar issues and I noticed brief comments such as an issue with hyperactive AC. Are other's having these issues? How did you fix it? Were there recalls for some of this stuff?

Thanks

I would not even worry about it. It's under warranty so just take it back to the dealer.

Yeah Maverick, That HVAC controls is way over-engineered ! To get fresh air through the vents on cool days you have to hit like three buttons. Its crazy.
I don't know how robust the system will be over the years.

all of those problems sound related to each other. the HVAC and radio/sat/HDD/etc are controlled thru a computer system called CAN. The BCM (Body Control Module) talks to these units and relays info to the ECM and other components.

It is going to be beyond the help of anyone over the internet. you need to take it to the dealer and have them hook up the CONSULT to test for any error codes.

ive never had any issues with the HVAC here in LA and over the summer it was just wonderful. we all have our thresholds of what we consider acceptable of course...

I called the dealer and explained the issues. The service writer said she's seen this before in other Infinity's. She said the wiring behind the computer may be bunched up and overheating causing the head unit and AC to malfunction. The BSW may need to be reset. I have an appt. next week.

Yeah, I'm kind of missing simplified controls for stuff like AC.

In case anybody has these issues in the future the BSW light needed to be reset by the dealer. The GPS and AC issues are related to a bad center/AV unit and needs to be replaced. I'm glad this is under warranty. I should get the car back in a few days.
