2011+ QX 1TB Media Center (iPad w/ XBMC, iPad Video Adapter & Seagate Wireless Plus)
I realized that the supported formats for the QX's USB ports were limited and was I unwilling to transcode all my video files, so I came up with the following solution:
Needed:
Jailbroken iPad, iPod touch or iPhone with XBMC installed. Note: As of this writing, there is currently no jailbreak available for devices running IOS 6.1.3 OR greater
iPod Touch/iPad/iPhone composite video out adapter. I used the Apple branded adapter (model#: MC748ZM/A). $25 on eBay.
Seagate Wireless Plus 1TB Portable Hard Drive. $175 on eBay.
Instructions:
Add the Seagate Wireless Plus as a source to XBMC, in the videos section by selecting "Add Videos">"Browse">"Windows network (SMB)". "WORKGROUP" should pop up if you're connected to the Seagate Wireless Plus via WIFI.
I despise DVDs, so this works great to eliminate the need for them, and also the need to convert all your existing videos. I recommend it to all who are in a similar predicament.
Note: I used an iPad 2, but any i device should work the same. Anyone needing help, just let me know.
