I've read a couple of the treads on problem with rear lift gate. I was experiencing them a few weeks back, but that has changed. First I was experiencing the lift gate being shut but the dash said it was open. I took off the rear inside panel and inspected the switches. I depressed them a few times and then everything started working. Two days ago I ran it through the carwash and now nothing in the back works. You can't open it from the outside. You can pop the rear glass and then trip the manual release and then open it, but that's it. I've check all fuses and all are ok. Basically it as if I have no power to the rear door. If I manually open the door the dash doesn't say whether or not there is an open door. The open switch left of the steering wheel doesn't work as well as the key fob. The close switch in the back doesn't work either. Several times the back door opens up on its own while I'm not around. I've walked out in the garage and found the door open. It seems to be happen when the doors are unlocked. I'm at a bit of a loss. I've back probed some of the connectors in the back door and I have power in some wires, but nothing works. I've read the bulletins from Infiniti on problems with the rear lift gate, but no sure it thats will help.

Their is a fix for this. You need to replace the rear hatch hinges, the rear door harnesses that are corroded and the door opening seal. If you stand on the rear bumper with the door closed, you will see the gap on the left is greater then on the right. This is because over time the lift arm, which is on the left pushes the door out of alignment over time. This allows water to enter the hatch and run into the harness connectors in the hatch. You can see the corrosion eaily by opening the hatch, stand on the drivers side, slid a thin tool to separate the lower plastic panel from the door frame. You will see two connectors and green corrosion present in the connectors.

I definitely agree with the alignment issue as I've noticed that. But the connectors are clean. I had the panel off and all looked good, but I'll double check. As of late the dash will show door open when, but the door won't operate on its own.
Thanks for the info

Well it's like clockwork. As soon as it gets wet the door acts up although it still doesn't open automatically when dry. My question is if I ever do find the problem, do these doors need to be recalibrated or anything? Or will it just start working on its own? I read in the manual about being in safe mode. Once in safe mode does it reset itself once the problem is corrected?

you can "Cancel" the auto open of the door. i have read others having the issue when being inside a car wash, so this issue it not uncommon.

if the door keeps failing, the mechanism needs to be replaced.

I have a similar problem with leaking. When I go through the car wash, water squirts in through the top of the hatch. Is there anything I can do to stop this? I'm sure it must be related, but during wet weather, our reverse camera fogs up. Now we get a bang sound from the automatic lifting rod when the hatch closes.

How do you cancel the auto open
