this is my sisters car,its a 2000 i30. about 5-6 months ago her battery died, so i changed it with a new one. then she was having a hard time taking it out of park. i looked at it and couldn't find the problem because it was fine when i got there. but still every once in a while it would happen again, also her brake lights don't work sometimes either. so i figured it was the switch on the brake pedal. i was going to replace it but it stopped happening and i haven't had a chance to get there. then last week she told me it still happens every once in a while, so i ordered the switch. now the other night she called me, when she was pulling into a shopping center her lights and were going off and on and same with all the indicator lights and gauges. she said it was like the car was going off and then back on. so i drove a half hour to her and everything seamed fine, it started right up and ran fine. i lifted the hood and told her to start the car and look at the gauges and started shaking all the main wires, and when i shook the positive lead on the battery the abs light came on then all the indicators started coming on and the car bogged down like it was going to stall, so i had her shut it off, i cleaned the post and and the connector and hooked it back up. she started the car and it seamed fine so i told her to head home and i would follow her just in case, and would come by in the a.m to look at it because it was dark and 26 degrees out(i should have told her to drive around the parking lot a couple times first) so of coarse at the busiest light in Massachusetts at the busiest time of year her car just died. when i turned the key it just clicked. the hazzards were working fine, i didn't check the head lights or anything else, the state police showed up and said it had to be towed asap. she had it towed home and now tomorrow a.m. i have to go look at it and don't know where to start. what do you guys think? shes kinda low on cash so i don't want to replace things that don't need to be. could it be the alternator? maybe a defective battery? shes been having problems ever since she got it. or the cable that connects to the battery? or what else could it be? a relay? any help would be appreciated thanks, joe sorry for the long post, i was trying to write everything i know exactly how it happened
