1997 j30 engine stopped up not getting oil to the top of engine

As the title states. This is what the machanic told me anyway. How can I fix this? I am a Ford man and can do anything that needs done on them. But as for my wifes infiniti I dont know where to begin neither did the machanic that looked at it. Is there a way to prime the oil pump with out the engine running? I thought of putting in some diesel fuel or kerosene in the engine to attemp to break up the gunk that is in there. Any ideas anyone.

they have oil treatments at almost any autozone or o'reilley's, but if it is that bad, I'd have the oil pan drained, and look for metal shavings.
