My 96 I30 has recently stopped holding charge over night, this started about 4 days ago.
I drove it and parked it with all the windows down and the sunroof open. Later in the evening I went out and turned the power on without starting, and rolled all the windows up and closed the sunroof. The next morning It was completely dead, the key fob wouldn't work or anything, I had to jump start the car.
Once the car is started everything works fine and I can run my errands. I can go inside somewhere for an hour and it will start fine when I come out, but If I don't start it for several hours, or overnight, then the battery gets completely drained and I have to jump start it again.
Battery is only a year and a half old. I had it tested and the results came back good. I was told there is nothing wrong with the battery. So I believe I have a parasitic draw somewhere, but no idea what could have caused this issue to suddenly manifest.
The only other issues with the car are: the stereo display is intermittent, but hadn't caused any issue before. Also the antenna motor doesn't work. I have been told by a mechanic that the power wire to the antenna doesn't work and that it would cost $1,000 to repair. So the antenna motor is completely disconnected as having the antenna retract is not a necessity to me and I don't mind it stayed up all the time. I also don't see spending that much money on something cosmetic.
The only thing I can find online about it suggests to hook up an amp meter to the battery and remove fuses one by one to see what is causing it. Before I take it to a shop and spend a bunch of money on it I am wondering if anybody else has had this issue or has any other suggestions to try.
Any help is much appreciated.
