Infiniti creates guest-centered virtual reality experience at 2015 Pebble Beach automotive week

  • Infiniti Partners with TEN: The Enthusiast Network to enhance the Infiniti Pavilion Experience, highlighting technology, design and performance
  • Immersive virtual driving experiences showcase Infiniti technology, plus the Infiniti Q60 and QX30 Concept vehicles
  • Infiniti Pavilion features the entire lineup of Infiniti luxury vehicles including the Infiniti Red Bull Racing show car

Pebble Beach, Calif. – Infiniti is partnering with TEN: The Enthusiast Network during the 2015 Pebble Beach automotive week to bring to life a collective, high-technology experience showcasing the brand’s evolving design and performance.

Through a new virtual reality experience, Infiniti is giving driving enthusiasts the opportunity to not just see, but actually feel what it’s like to take the wheel of two of its newest and most exciting concept cars. The “Dream Road” at the Infiniti Pavilion at Pebble Beach Concours Plaza transports guests to the driver’s seat of the Q60 Concept, which was revealed earlier this year at the Detroit Auto show. The exhibit lets guests virtually experience the performance of the next generation coupe on some of the world’s most exhilarating drives, including Italy’s Stelvio Pass and the stunning Atlantic Ocean road in Norway. Infiniti teamed with CXC Simulations and professional drivers to replicate the real-world physics of every bump, acceleration and turn of drive. The custom simulator recreates G-forces and tilt, providing a fully-immersive VR experience.

In a second virtual reality experience launching at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Infiniti executive design director Alfonso Albaisa will take guests on a guided tour of the breathtaking design of the QX30 Concept in “From Pencil to Metal.” Beginning with the very first pencil sketches drawn in thin air, viewers will experience the QX30 Concept design story unfold around them in three-dimensional space – moving to CAD files, clay modeling and, lastly, the final model. The experiences were created by Infiniti’s creative agency of record CP+B and media agency of record OMD.

Guests visiting the Infiniti Pavilion will receive a complimentary special edition headset inspired by Google Cardboard so they can download the free Infiniti Driver’s Seat VR mobile app and relive the full experiences at home. In addition, both “From Pencil to Metal” and “Dream Road” short films will become centerpieces of the first-ever YouTube 360 automotive advertising campaign — an industry first. The campaign launches August 15, 2015.

“The Pebble Beach Concours is the perfect stage for Infiniti and TEN to showcase the best in automotive style and technology,” said Allyson Witherspoon, director of marketing communications for Infiniti. “This innovative partnership invites the automotive enthusiast at Pebble Beach to transport themselves virtually and in real life with unique Infiniti experiences and celebrate with us the latest vehicles in the Infiniti lineup.”

As part of Infiniti’s integration with TEN, Motor Trend will curate a ride-and-drive experience with eight luxury Infiniti vehicles including the Q50 sport sedan, Q60S Convertible and the QX80 Limited. Test-drives will take place Thursday, Aug. 13 through Saturday, Aug. 15 starting at the Infiniti Pavilion and throughout the Monterey Pines and iconic 17-Mile Drive.

Also at the Infiniti Pavilion are Food & Wine Moments, featuring a selection of local artisan cheeses and wines for guests to enjoy. The refreshing Food & Wine Moments take place Friday through Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

On Saturday evening, Aug. 15, beginning at 6 p.m., Motor Trend and Infiniti will host a private party featuring internationally-acclaimed musical guest Vintage Trouble.

The Infiniti Pavilion is located at the Pebble Beach Concours Plaza on the corner of Forest Lake Road and Stevenson Drive in Pebble Beach and will be open to guests during the following times:

  • Thursday, Aug. 13, Noon to 6 p.m.
  • Friday, Aug. 14, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 15, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, Aug. 16, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Infiniti will also have a large activation at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. As a Platinum Sponsor of this exclusive event, Infiniti will once again host one of the most intimate and celebrated events during Pebble Beach Automotive Week. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the Q60 Concept and the exceptional Infiniti Red Bull Racing Show Car up-close while interacting with the Infiniti technology experience. New this year, guests will be able to enjoy hand-crafted Smitten Ice Cream compliments of Infiniti. This year’s enhanced event will take place on the Practice Range of Quail Lodge & Golf Club.  Infiniti is the Official and Exclusive Shuttle of The Quail, providing eight QX80 vehicles and shuttle service solely for Quail Lodge and Golf Club guests and VIPs.

Infiniti “Shares the Future” at Goodwood Festival of Speed

WEST SUSSEX, England – 06.15.2015 – Infiniti’s design studio is temporarily moving to Sussex for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed (June 26 to 29), offering visitors to the popular event an exclusive glimpse of its future line-up.

Infiniti designers’ latest concept models – two of them never seen in the UK before and all of them previewing cars confirmed to enter production – will take center stage on the Infiniti display.

It will be the first time that the trio of award-winning concepts are being displayed together, providing a unique preview of new key models in the fast-expanding Infiniti range and a close-up look at the brand’s new design direction. Fittingly the display is entitled: ‘Infiniti Shapes The Future’.

“Design is at the heart of everything Infiniti does, and our concept models are famous for their boldness and seductive appeal,” said Francois Goupil De Bouille vice president for Infiniti in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “The opportunity to show our three newest concepts all together for the first time to such an influential audience is an opportunity not to be missed.”

The Infiniti Q60 Concept previews an elegant new sporting 2+2 coupe. The Infiniti Q80 Inspiration, being shown at Goodwood in a special display version of the concept, shows Infiniti’s future design language in the form of a super-luxury four-door fastback. And the QX30 Concept offers a preview of how its production version will look when it comes out of the Sunderland production plant next year. The concept, a bold new active crossover with the sleek appeal of a coupe, is designed for a new generation of individualistic premium customers. It was highly acclaimed at its debut at the Geneva Motor Show this year and will be making its UK debut at Goodwood. The QX30 active crossover will be launched shortly after Infiniti’s first ever entry into the compact segment, the Q30 active compact, which will also be built at the Sunderland plant and go on sale in Europe at the end of this year.

Infiniti’s Festival of Speed stand, located near the Supercar Paddock at “The world’s largest motoring garden party,” will also showcase Infiniti designers’ racing dreams with a scale model of the Infiniti GT Vision Gran Turismo, a “virtual” racer designed for the Gran Turismo®6 (GT6™) game.

It’s not just for looking at either – visitors will be invited to take the controls themselves for a run up the Goodwood hill on one of the PlayStation™ pods freely available, with prizes for fastest times.

And if visitors prefer the real thing, the brand’s motor racing reality will take pride of place on the stand in the form of an Infiniti Red Bull Racing Formula 1 car.

Infiniti, currently seeing record sales increases in the UK, will be welcoming visitors to the “Infiniti Shapes The Future” stand on each of the four days of the Festival of Speed.

Production for upcoming Infiniti Q30 heralds new jobs for the UK automotive industry

  • Recruitment starts ahead of Q30 production start
  • Next phase of Infiniti’s global expansion set to begin

SUNDERLAND, UK – 06.11.2015 – With the arrival of the all-new Infiniti Q30 approaching, recruitment has started for 300 new jobs required in the UK to support the brand’s first ever entry into the premium compact segment.

The new manufacturing posts have been created at Infiniti’s newest global production base in Sunderland, UK, as preparations gather pace for the launch of the Q30, Infiniti’s premium compact entry for global markets and the brand’s first vehicle to be built in Europe.

Representing a £250 million investment in the UK, plant extensions totaling over 25,000 m2 have already been added to the existing facilities in Sunderland, including a new Body Shop and an expanded Trim and Chassis vehicle assembly line.

The new recruits will join the company ahead of the start of production of Q30 later this year, when Infiniti will become the first new car brand to start manufacturing in the UK on such a scale in 23 years.

“Infiniti production heralds the beginning of a new era for our operations in the UK, and the demands of premium vehicle manufacturing requires significant additions to the team,” said Colin Lawther, senior vice president for Manufacturing, Purchasing and Supply Chain Management in Europe. “It is a fantastic time to be joining the company, as we prepare to launch Infiniti’s first premium compact entry for global markets. In return we’ll be looking for people who share the same obsession for detail and commitment to quality as our highly-skilled workforce in Sunderland.”

The current recruitment drive is higher than the 180 direct jobs originally announced in 2012 as a result of Infiniti allocation to the Nissan Motor Co. facility in the UK. It will take the company’s Sunderland workforce to just below 6,800, supporting an estimated further 28,000 jobs in the UK automotive supply chain.

The production start of the Infiniti Q30 at Sunderland will be closely followed by a second Infiniti model, the QX30, a new premium compact crossover. Both vehicles are integral to Infiniti’s commitment to expand its portfolio and offer a broader range of products to its customers.

Infiniti had a record-breaking 2014 with global sales of more than 186,200 vehicles, up 13.5 percent from the previous year. The company reached all-time high results in 19 markets around the world last year, becoming one of the fastest growing premium brands in a number of key regions and markets such as China, Western Europe, the Middle East and Mexico.

The Q30 and QX30 will not only be the first premium models manufactured in Sunderland, but also the first to be exported from Sunderland to the North American and Chinese markets.
