Am I the only one that hates the Nav System in the QX??? This is by far the worse system I've seen. The voice recognition sucks big time (and I've trained the dumb thing, and I don't slur my speech). Sometimes it takes me in a complete circle before it realizes or says to go another direction.

It won't let you search for places by name, just listed them my distance.. it won't even alphabetize them.

It's missing many streets, streets that have been around for years are still not listed!!!

Why can't we search for common things like.. Banks, Post Offices, Police/Fire Stations, Grocery Stores.... The general list that is contained is lacking any sophistication.:mad::mad:

Having owned nav systems in many cars, I enter with my expectations pretty low. Most have been borderline useless and definitely frustrating. Acura does a pretty good job, Mercedes is good now, but was absolute trash prior to about 2010. Lexus is ok, but voice recognition is a joke.

That said, I am pretty pleased with the Infiniti. The training seemed to work for me and I can enter destinations including streets by voice fairly often. Again, if you are expecting better than 50% success, don't. Have you tried Siri? Very similar experience. When it works it is very cool, when it doesn't I just hope that the hard drive based system will allow for upgrades in the future.

The other tip I would offer is to yell. You can enunciate all you want, but you also just have to be plain loud.

I actually think the NAV system in the QX is pretty good (but I have lowered expectations for all NAV systems much like cassiri). The system is much, much better than NAV in our 2010 Sequoia. My only complaint (not related to NAV) is the sound quality of the bluetooth hands free. Not as clear as the Toyota.

ive had a Nissan armada (2008) that had pretty much the same nav system. this system in the new Q is better in terms of speech recognition. it also add a couple of new features such as weather, etc.

there is a tutorial you can use that will let you know if you are speaking/saying the proper words correctly to the unit. perhaps give it a whirl?

tips:

when it beeps to acknowledge you to input, wait about 1.5 seconds before you speak. this gives the unit time to get ready.

use "zero" and not "oh" for the number 0.

you can press the button with the mouth and audio waves on the steering wheel to "cut to the chase" and enter your voice commands quickly.

using the advanced mode will give you more options but the system can have a bit more errors in the decoding of your voice since you could be speaking about any number of commands.

when i used the armada, it took me a minute to speak the language of the car :D but once i mastered it, its been no issues since.

i just moved to LA so i need the gps nearly daily and it has not failed me at all. in some parts of the country it may not have all the updates but its not the fault of nissan, its the local area that sends this update data to these services that update maps. plus each car company has to add their own software and updates to the map data and this can add some delay to the updates being ready.

the system is entirely hard drive based so yes updates will happen via the USB port on the truck. you go to navteq's site, pay the cost to get a code. that code is taken to your dealer where they enter the code into the consult which speaks to the nissan server, checks the code against its database, and if its OK will then download the updates direct to the HDD.

this process takes just under an hour but i think nissan/infiniti may charge an hour labor?

you cant do this on your own. it has to be done thru nissan/infiniti.

here is the link to the site that you will purchase the code:
http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/IN...ShowAllProducts=YES&PersistNavigationMenu=YES

if this does not work, just go to http://www.navteq.com/ then click on store up at the top.

check back periodically as nissan/infiniti will not alert you to an update.

I have to agree that the system in the QX is actually better than most. I also own a 2010 Cadillac SRX and I can say that the NAV system in the QX is much better than what's in the SRX

I heavily rely on the Nav system, and with the addition of the prestige module, I love the system on the QX-56. It is the easiest system I have ever owned to use, touch screen, voice, dial, and steering wheel control, and I find it very accurate. Has all streets, side streets, even some parking lots. I feel exactly the opposite as the first person, and wonder if there is something wrong with their system or setup?

I'm driving a 2011 QX-56.

I like the NAV system on the QX, except for the fact that you can't use it while the vehicle is in motion (ok, speech works). I guess you can buy a switch to fix this but I'd rather not mess with the wiring:o. I like the touch screen feature and the voice recognition works fine for us. Heck, even the cheap portable NAVs are touch screen!
I've owned Mercedes vehicles in the past and I hated their NAV system. They are archaic; no touch screen and the controls on it were not very user friendly. I don't know if they've improved on it since my last MB was a '11 model (GL). I somehow doubt it.

seems ok

My wife likes the Nav in the QX. I agree you need to be loud.
I wish you could choose different voices for the system. The one that is there now is so blah. It would be so cool if you could choose the hot Aussie Shela voice.

Man, That thing will flat out run! :) Effortlessly !

Well... I can say I'm not as pleased as the rest of you.

The system worked better, before some slicked-haired pimp of a salesman said he could "fine tune" the Nav, but ever since it just SUCKS!

you cats have your windows rolled down when talking to the nav? :D

i have never had to shout. the key is to wait until its your turn to talk and speak in a normal conversational tone.

the mans face on the screen? when you should not talk his eyes are closed :D it means the system is busy. when his eyes are open, the system is in normal mode and/or could be talking to you. when its your turn to speak you heat the beep and his mouth opens and the waves come out of his mouth. :D wait about 1.5 seconds after the beep then have a chat with the car.. :)

you cats will get used to it. dont forget the learning mode and the train mode. if you have the windows down and birds are chirping, etc whilst you are in learn mode with the car, it will pick up those extraneous sounds and ASSume thats part of your voice. so try and keep the cabin as quiet as possible when training.

just trying to help...

Yea, I don't know what all the fuss is about, I use this pretty often as I've never entered the streets manually always with voice, a lot of times with others in the car and never had an issue or problem with it picking up the correct information.

I own a Ford Fusion Plug-in hybrid with built-in nav system and voice command. Between my Ford and my wife's new Infiniti the Nav system and voice recognition is like Day and Night.

Even the street addresses that exists and can see in google maps, able to access in my smart phone and in my Ford Fusion are not showing up in my wife's brand new Infiniti QX60. What a WASTE :( :(

yup... been saying that for years!!

what sucks is if you live in an area like virginia, where Fairfax, Great Falls, Oakton, Chantilly, etc are all within the same damn county, but it wants u to say that SECTION of the freckn county or else it doesn't see it... that drives me NUTS!!!

The Infiniti Navigation system is worthless. It is very random and does not recognize roads from 40-50 years ago. And then they insult you with map upgrades purchase offers. From when? the horse and buggy era up to 1960? No thanks! No respect for the clients. Sadly, I love how my suv drives/handles but this nit picking is not for me. The upgrade cycle seems long and stale, and local dealerships are abandoning Infiniti after the debacle in leadership. This companies feels adrift. Is Mercedes even using their technology anymore? Sad and a wasteful to throw away a reputation of innovation to a bunch of b!tchy executives.
