Default Trans lock up?

Had something happen with our 15 80 Saturday night that was odd. On freeway in congested traffic. Had an opening so I hammered the throttle. Engine redlines at 6k in or around 3rd gear and stalls like it hit a speed limiter. I let off and it shifted normally from then on the rest of our trip home which was about an hour and a half. Check engine light came on momentarily then went back off. Has never done this before. I made some hard shifts during acceleration when I had the room on the freeway a few more times trying to get it to repeat the hangup but it never cooperated.
My wife drives this one primarily now so I'm sure it doesn't get seasoned as well as when I drove it previously daily.
We've got around 40k on the clock. Not sure if the dealer can recall that light issue or not? Or even if it's worth mentioning?
Anyone ever experienced this before?

The check engine light should have thrown a code which would be stored You (or dealer / anyone with OBDII reader) should be able to read the fault.

The readers are cheap these days and even places like Autozone or equivalent will read the codes for free.

I have one that reads codes, records live data and resets if needed ... haven't had to use on my 2016 QX80 yet.

Didn't think about the code being stored. My brother has a reader. I'll scan it and see what it says.
