Default Why you bought the QX80, versus the MB GL550?

Dear Forum users

I am a 10+ year Infiniti owner (QX56), but a newbie on the forum.

I am now in the market for a new SUV and have basically shortlisted the QX80 and the Mercedes GL (not sure yet whether 550, 450 or Diesel).

Would love the perspectives of those that must have gone through a similar decision cycle recently. Why did you pick the QX80?

thanks
danny

The Mercedes isn't 20k better in my opinion. Less hp, less towing capability, less room, less standard features, etc.
If you google a comparison you will find articles where they discussed this.

Hope that helps.
Would be great if Infiniti added a diesel but I'm fearful it would the Cummins.

thanks krcebel.

Based on my research, I am thinking...
Buy a QX because ....
...Interiors, interiors interiors. Especially with the Limited option, feel more luxurious and classy. amazing that they have trumped everyone except Ranger Rover with their interiors, in this class
...Touch screen
...Captain's chair are phenomenal
...3rd row is a 3-seater so you get a true 7-seater even with Captain's chairs
....it gives more "elbow room"; is just more roomy inside especially width-wise and height-wise

On the other hand, buy a GL because...
...body-on-frame design drives better
...it has a moon roof; thats very cool
...Claims to have ~4" more leg room in 3rd row but lower height than Inf. both felt the same frankly
...Integrates better with an iphone (although some forums hate the Merc iphone app)

I didnt see a huge difference in HP (400 for Inf; 360-430 for GL450/550) or towing (within 10%). Towing is also less important to me.

I think it comes down to: Want a guaranteed better ride that doesnt throw you around? Buy MB
Want slightly more space, better interiors, Captains chairs - buy Inf.

Its so difficult to judge the ride quality differences in a test drive. I would love to hear from someone that has owned both? is the MB ride that much better to overcome its shortcomings and a $20k cost difference?

I have tragedii gl450 (2015) for qx80. Gl is cheap, rattling, squeaky and overrated . After few month I have seat back to my sister's GL63amg, put my ARM on the door armrest, 'khhhkrrkkk', I love Qx. Fold a second row of GL, and you will find e a lot of wires springs, bare metal stuff. Check under front seat, unprotected harness sticks out. Front camera doesnt Turn on automaticly. Both 2nd and 3rd row headrest are hard to open and close, and it has to be done everytime you enter 3rd row.
What I think MB done better was rear camera ( during normal driven it is hidden do it is away clean), fuel economy ( it was 3 liter gasoline engine), heated cupholders, 3rd row folds faster. The rest is much better in qx, its higher class

I was down to the Range Rover and the QX80 Limited ... coming from an Escalade.

The Limited interior is what sold me ... almost Bentley like ... plus my Infiniti dealership had been good to me on a bullet proof G35 we got for my daughter.

Nothing is absolutely perfect ... so a matter of which has the most of what you want.

My biggest adjustment was in ride ... I think the QX80 rides firmer than Range Rover, BMW and MB, (and Escalade). Might be those factory tires on 22" rims ... became more noticeable in cold weather.

It was real close ... but in end decided I wasn't going to spend 10's of thousands more for a Range Rover that can optioned to more than double the QX80 Limited.
