Default 1996 J30 - sell or fix transmission?

My beloved 1996 J30 did not pass its 18thNew York State inspection. The check engine light problem shows an error for the solenoid. Transmission place replaced the solenoid and still gets the check engine light (emissions light??). They said the fluid is really yukky and bad. I use my J30 as an extra car only in the Summer for the past 10 years. I love this car so much. I bought it new. It has taken me around the country when it was my primary car. It has 120K miles. It is in good shape. The windows are showing age (motors). I live in cold weather climate and have never had a garage and it is still in great shape. Several years ago I moved to the country and she can't handle the hills or even my driveway in the winter. So, she has been my summer car. Well now I have this problem with the transmission. The transmission place said it would cost about $1600 to get the transmission replaced. What should I do? Sell? or Fix? If I sell her how do I determine the price? Thanks for your help. I am a girl who loves automobiles (getting old now at 65) and it is an emotional decision too. Thanks.

I had a J30 1993 always kept in garage with 75K miles. Someone rear ended me at stop light (Texting and driving) didn't do a whole lot of damage, however the passenger door clearance in the gap around the door was metal on metal. Insurance totaled my car and gave me a whooping check for 3,100 and said I could buy the car back and keep it for 300. I love the J30, however even though it felt like more or a girls car sleek lines, quality curves. I wanted to keep it forever.... Needless to say I would fix it, at 65 your engine needs a little tender love and care but like a fine glass of wine it takes some time. Keep it, is my vote.

Default Problem solved!

Update as of 11/20/2015 --- finally my 1996 J30 is fixed and back on the road! The problem was the wiring harness was chewed through by 2 rodents. All fixed, passed NYS inspection, got registration today and I took a spin. Love it!
