Fog Light upgrade?

Any of you guys upgrade your fog lights to HID or LEDs?
I bought a set of HID bulbs for mine and hooked them up. They will not come on.
For the ones of you that have upgraded did you have to run a harness to the battery for the power to get the bulb to come on?
I read on one website where that may be needed but before I go and spend more money and time I wanted to know what you guys have done.
The oem fogs are pointless as the color of light is so dim is useless and not even worth having them on.
Thanks in advance for your help.
I'm not going for looks either. I'm looking for functionality.
The hid kits I have are 55w ballasts with 6000k bulbs. That's the purest white you can get before they start turning bluish in the spectrum.
Have these in my pickup and they are incredible.

I have LEDS in the fogs. plug and play.

some HIDs dont work correctly on cars that use the CAN bus system like the Q does.

vleds.com carry HIDs that work with CAN systems.

plug and play HIDs connect right up to the fog lamp harness plug. they are polarized so make sure the wiring is properly setup.

i have all the lamps on the car switched over to LEDs. all plug and play.

Marc do you have a model or part number that you used?
The Hid kits I have are plug and play with the ballasts. From ddm tuning. Great quality products.
I tried reversing the polarity of the plugs on the hid kits and it didn't work.
Thanks!!

Do you have to remove any shields to get to the bulbs? Also pics of fog lights Marc...

Bulbs are very easy to get to as there aren't any shields or panels to remove. Just reach up in behind the bumper and you will feel them. The spoiler/air dam curves back under so you have to get back behind it and then go up.

Second the pic of the lights Marc.
Without pics we don't believe you really changed them...:D

I had HIDs in there but I got scared because the added heat form the hids may crack the lens, so i removed them and put in LEDs. never had any issues with the HIDs.

I got the HIDs from vleds.com as i know his bulbs and equipment are japan quality. these hids were CAN bus certified (im not sure this makes a difference in terms of them working).

as for the setup on the HIDs, they were plug and play. they were basically low beam HIDs designed to be used in a headlamp housing. I just had two wires if memory serves, the ignitors, ballasts, and lamps.

LEDs are much more simple and offer a pretty good output. ill grab a photo of the fogs and post.. :D

This is what I have for mine and they would not come on. I will reach out to DDM tomorrow to ask about the can bus certification. In my opinion they make the highest quality hid kits on the market. Or at least source the highest quality because all of them come out of Japan which is why its so ironic our qx's didn't come with some sort of hid or led in the fog's.
I wouldn't worry too much about heat as the hid's put off less heat than the halogens that are in there now. At least that is what I have been told by multiple sources.
Look forward to seeing your pics.
How are they from a performance perspective? Better than oem?

Marc....how is the light output on those LEDS? I know there are all kinds of quality out there and have heard mixed reviews about vleds.com

Can you link me to the exact model or part you used? Thanks.

there are varying degrees of LED lamps out there. i picked up mine back in 2011 so there are probably better quality lamps at lower cost and with higher output.

that said, they are night and day over the tungsten filament in there now, so anything is a major upgrade over the stockers.

HIDs put out a lot of light and heat and i have seen them crack lenses and/or start burn spots where the light is focused, so this is why i removed those HIDs from there when LEDs were becoming more practical in quality and price. again this was in 2011 so there could be better HIDs with lower heat output out now.

as usual I forgot about the images. i just got in and forgot. i will smoke off a shot tomorrow.... :o

INTERIOR LED install

Guys forgive me as I know many of us know this but I received two messages offline inquiring about installing LED's. To many of us this is simple but the hard part is finding the right size LED. This is a simple plug and play modification. These are T-10 SMD LED's. They are so inexpensive...you can outfit your Q for under 20 bucks with these. The light output is a pure white light and really is a great upgrade.
NOTE: If the LED does not light up...simply pull it out, rotate it, and push it back in. It will work.

Also not these T-10's fit in all of our lights except the rear cargo and mirrors.

The attachment you uploaded in your last post does not function.

Also not these T-10's fit in all of our lights except the rear cargo and mirrors.

The above quoted statement is somewhat confusing. Are you saying the referenced T-10 SMD LED's will NOT work in the rear cargo area and the mirrors? Would that be the rear-view mirror? If so, what bulb size would work for those?

What about the output .. will these T-10 SMD LED's cause a burn mark on the finishing lens cover?

Will try again

Hmmm...not sure why it did not post the last pics but I will try again. The T-10's work in all interior lights EXCEPT, vanity mirrors and the rear cargo area.. I had these exact T-10's in my JX and my Acura. There has never been a burn in issue with the cover lens. I have never heard of this ever being an issue. Frankly the factory bulbs in there are so hot after a few seconds, I actually burned my finger pulling one out to replace it with the T-10....so the OEM bulbs burn much hotter then these LED's.

Licence plate bulbs

Here are pics of the Licence plate bulbs...again T-10 bulbs. There is only one way that I know of to swap these out..you must remove the rear tailgate panel. Very easy...but a poor design by infiniti
