I took my 1999 Infiniti QX4 SUV with 90000 miles for a tire rotation and wheel alignment. I was told that my shocks were leaking and i needed new wheel bearings. I was quoted $1800 for the whole job. I live in SF, but with what prices per strut are and labor, is that bad or am I being gouged? Also...how long do i actually have to ride around on the existing shocks? And, how does one tell if a wheel bearing is bad? I basically need to see how soon I need to drop $2000 on my older car.

I was quoted $3,500 for parts for the suspension on my 97 QX4. I ordered online from InfinitiUSA.com and saved a lot with fast shipping. I'm sure you can find a suspension / alignment shop nearby which will install the parts and probably tell you what parts you need. My parts were Nissan factory parts and 20% below their book cost and probably 50% or more below what Nissan quoted me. |

My husband and I changed ours and I think for all the parts it was about $800.00. I would order the parts online and see if you could get a shop to just do the labor. The front shocks were a pain, but it was worth it to save the money on labor. It took us a couple of evenings to get everything done. Just make sure you buy inifiniti wheel bearings otherwise you'll hear a clicking in the front wheels, the infiniti bearings are the only ones that fit in the race like they are supposed to the aftermarket ones are too loose which is what makes the clicking sound. I know from personal experience.
