...off. Any ideas? I've had this car for a while now, and haven't had any problems. Now, after running my car for 5 minutes everything is ok but less than 10 minutes later the temp gage goes all the way into the red and then shuts off (within 3 minutes or so once the needle is about halfway. I DO have coolant and water and everything else that should make it work but it still doesn't. Some people have said it might be a cracked head which means I'm screwed, so I'm hoping it might be something else. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe just the head gasket, if the heads were cracked, it would run very badly.

you may just have a defective thermostat sensor that is reading incorrectly and telling the ecm to turn off the motor as a protective measure.
Be aware that many cars have to sensors ,,one for the dash and the other for the ecm.
You may also have a defective thermostat in the coolant line that is not opening and allowing the coolant to circulate.
All the rest of that doom talk you have heard is bulls--t.

I would think the thermostat may be stuck closed if you haven't checked that.
