I am new to the forum and own a 1999 QX4 bought new with 69K miles on it. I have been thinking about trading it in but found this forum and I am impressed with how reliable everyone says it is and may be keeping it.

My question is to those who have higher miles on them - did you change the belt at the recommended interval? How much did it cost? I am going to need brakes, tires and a muffler and would do it if I could keep the car if the belt change is reasonable or if you could put it off for awhile.

Thank you for your replies - Dave

I changed my timing belt when my water pump went out at 183k miles. Unless you are very mechanically inclined I would not recommend doing it yourself. To get to the timing belt you have to take the harmonic balancer off, water pump, and many many more things. Took me a couple of days and an impact wrench. My QX4 now has 231,000 and still going strong despite some minor issues. BTW the previous owner changed it at 90k.
